The BBC has teamed up with boutique digital agency Ralph to create a revealing customisable video to promote the new scary, funny and bloody thriller Psychoville, which began transmission on 18 June 2009. This is a new seven part series from two of the creators of The League of Gentlemen, Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton.  The BBC has created an extensive online journey to run alongside the programme which consists of a series of websites, exclusive videos and interactive comedy related to Psychoville’s characters.

The show introduces viewers and web users to a set of six eccentric and peculiar characters, all of whom are being blackmailed by a mysterious black-gloved stranger with an axe to grind. Throughout the series the audience will discover what makes each of these characters tick and, as the story unfolds, a dark secret is revealed and a hidden past that binds the characters together.

Psychoville is more than a TV show

The customisable video and the extra content have been made exclusively for the web.  By visiting the sites and interacting with this content, fans of the show will be able to delve deeper into the mystery at the heart of the series. They will receive messages from the mysterious blackmailer, seeking information about the characters and those taking part will need to scour the websites for the answers

Commenting on the launch of the Psychoville viral, Creative Director Chris Hassell said “This is a fantastic opportunity for our interactive agency to work together with BBC Multiplatform and Vision Production on a dark, horror-influenced comedy journey.

“Video virals are becoming an ever more popular way of communicating messages as they are extremely impactive.

“Our virals continue to use the latest technology that offers viewers the chance to get to grips with the drama and engage with the characters from their favourite films and programmes.

“We are proud to be at the forefront of the video viral revolution and will continue to challenge and provoke with our creative campaigns.”

Ralph are also the creative minds behind the viral campaign for the American TV drama about a serial killer Dexter, which proved so controversial that Ralph received calls of complaint from the public and Scotland Yard Police. For more, visit http://www.icetruck.tv
