Thursday, 17 September 2009 01:00

Network DVD’s first ever Blu-ray title will be a special-features laden THE PRISONER: THE COMPLETE SERIES BLU-RAY (PG) starring the late, great, iconic Patrick McGoohan. Now available to buy as a six-disc limited edition box set this is the first Blu-Ray version of the series anywhere in the world.

This is only home entertainment edition of the series to be officially endorsed by Patrick McGoohan himself and based on the version of the standard definition DVD which won Best TV DVD at the Home Entertainment Weekly (HEW) Awards in 2007, THE PRISONER THE COMPLETE SERIES BLU-RAY is thougt-provoking, revelatory and extremely prescient of the drastic tyrannical situation we all currently find ourselves in.

The Prisoner arrives on Blu-Ray

At the HEW Awards, sponsored by the trade magazine Home Entertainment Weekly, it won the ‘Programme Awards: Television’ category, where it was up against Doctor Who Series 3, “Hogfather”, and Life On Mars Series 2.  The DVD release was also successful in the “DVD Presentation of the Year” category of our own Cult TV Awards, voted for by members of this website, where it was up against Futurama – “Bender’s Big Score”, Lost – Season Three, Heroes – Series One, and Stargate SG-1 – Complete Series 1-10.

McGoohan's iconic series is as fresh and dynamic now as it was when first unleashed upon an unsuspecting world in 1967. Containing all seventeen episodes, the set will feature all the extras from the DVD release, as well as extras that were exclusive to the individual documentary DVD release “Don’t Knock Yourself Out”.

This means the wealth of special features include:

  • “Don’t Knock Yourself Out” a feature-length documentary which is the most comprehensive look at the production of ‘The Prisoner’, told by those involved in its creation
  • Restored original edit of "Arrival" with an optional music-only soundtrack featuring Wilfred Josephs’ complete and abandoned score
  • Production Crew audio commentaries on seven episodes
  • Trailers for all episodes
  • Archive textless material, including the title sequence with clean themes by Ron Grainer, Wilfred Josephs and Robert Farnon
  • Commercial Break Bumpers
  • Behind-the-Scenes footage including much previously unseen
  • Script and Production Documentation PDFs
  • Image Galleries with Music Suites
  • Exclusive book on the making of the series by TV historian Andrew Pixley
  • 5.1 sound mixes on all episodes
  • The Pink Prisoner - Peter Wyngarde pays tribute to The Prisoner in this self-written unique cross between an interview and comedy sketch, in his own incomparable style!
  • You Make Sure it Fits! - Music Editor Eric Mival discusses his role behind the scenes in making The Prisoner and provides a unique look at the Music Bible for the show.

With its distinctive theme tune by Ron Grainer, special guest appearances from the cream of British stage and screen including Leo McKern, George Baker, Peter Bowles, Donald Sinden, and Anton Rodgers, THE PRISONER THE COMPLETE SERIES BLU-RAY is THE definitive release of the series and a must-have for all fans of high quality dramas.
