Limitless: Blu-ray and DVD

Most of us know that the vast majority of the human brain is not used within our day to day terrestrial lives. Huge chunks of what makes up our ‘grey matter’ just sits there, its actual usage not comprehended by what we laughingly call ‘mainstream science’.  Much like the concept of ‘Junk DNA’ – coding within our molecular structure which apparently serves no purpose – we refuse to even consider the possibilities that its functioning on a different level, us being locked away by thousands of years of ‘evolution’ from the secrets it holds.

And so, just to tease us with a modicum of the possibilities that might be open to all of us, into our lives came “Limitless”, out now on Blu-ray and DVD.  Bradley Cooper, the guy who bought Templeton Peck back to life in the recent movie of “The A Team” gets top billing, saddled with an eminent array of co-stars including Abbie Cornish, Anna Friel, and the legend that is Robert de Niro. Described by the press blurb as a “paranoia-fuelled action thriller”, this is a movie full of ‘food for thought’!

Limitless - out now on Blu-ray and DVDAspiring author Eddie Morra (Cooper) is suffering from chronic writer’s block, not that he’s much of a success with it when he hasn’t! His life changes overnight when an old friend introduces him to NZT, a revolutionary new pharmaceutical yet to hit the market or have safety checks, that allows him to tap his full potential – putting 100% of his brain ‘online’ for use. With every synapse crackling, Eddie can recall everything he has ever read, seen or heard, learn any language in a day, comprehend complex equations and beguile anyone he meets - as long as he keeps taking the untested drug. When supplies get low, and he cannot gain further supplies, that’s when the problems begins

Eddie takes Wall Street by storm, converting just a small outlay into millions. His accomplishments catch the eye of mega-mogul Carl Van Loon (De Niro), who invites him to help broker the largest merger in corporate history. But they also bring Eddie to the attention of people willing to do anything to get their hands on his stash of NZT. With his life in jeopardy and the drug’s brutal side effects taking their toll, Eddie dodges mysterious stalkers, a vicious gangster and an intense police investigation as he attempts to hang on to his dwindling supply long enough to outwit his enemies.

Directed by Neil Burger (“The Illusionist”, “Interview with the Assassin”), written by Leslie Dixon (“Hairspray”, “The Thomas Crown Affair”), and based on the novel “Limitless” (originally “The Dark Fields”) by Alan Glynn, this is a movie that lives up to its billing, with Cooper turning in an outstanding performance, which would be Award winning had the film been about Soviet tractor farming, or angst and regret against a war-torn backdrop!

The following DVD extras are also within the package:

  • Director’s Commentary
  • Alternative Ending (hopefully an earlier one, as it is far, far inferior to what we ended up with)
  • “Taking It To The Limit – The making of Limitless”
  • A Man Without Limits
  • Trailer

Plus, the package comes sheathed in a premium eye-catching 3D lenticular “O-card”.

“Limitless” is out now, with a ‘15’ certificate, a running time of 105 minutes approx, and RRPs of £19.99 (Blu-ray) and £15.99 (DVD), or get it for less at
