He's the ultimate weapon in crime prevention, part man, part machine, all cop. He's the “Future of Law Enforcement”. He's RoboCop. And he's back...

More than a decade after Paul Verhoeven's cyberpunk hit introduced him to the world, producer-director Julian Grant and screenwriters Brad Abraham and Joseph O'Brien joined forces to bring the 21st Century hero into the real 21st Century in a four-part television miniseries collectively entitled RoboCop: Prime Directives, starring Page Fletcher as Alex J Murphy/ RoboCop.

Robocop Prime Directives back on DVDThe miniseries is divided into four movies, each instalment telling an independent story, but one that, viewed as a whole, emerges as a longer, more elaborate narrative.

The previous incarnation of RoboCop was the family-friendly RoboCop: The Series television series version of the format. Producer Grant had no interest in maintaining this approach, and returned RoboCop to his dark, violent roots.

There were nods to previous RoboCop movies and TV series in the mini-series. One OCP employee makes reference to the previous failed attempts to recreate RoboCop, Cain in “RoboCop 2”. Another character makes reference to RoboCop cleaning up Cadilliac Heights, from “RoboCop 3”.

In "Dark Justice" and "Resurrection", RoboCop has flashblacks, which contain footage from the original film. This is a story in itself, as the Prime Directives producers were not permitted to use clips from the feature films. However, MGM had licensed shots of Murphy's death scene from the original ROBOCOP for the previous television show to use. So, the creators of Prime Directives took the footage that the TV show used, and re-coloured the shots blue!

01. DARK JUSTICE

Ten years after his resurrection, ROBOCOP is up against the havoc-creating BONE MACHINE. A sinister rebel group called THE TRUST, secretly re-programmes ROBOCOP to kill Delta City’s security commander CABLE. This results in a violent clash between ROBOCOP, CABLE and BONE MACHINE which ultimately leads to ROBOCOP’s biggest challenge yet…

02. MELTDOWN

A sinister rebel group called The Trust schemes to take over Delta City. They transform the dead body of ROBOCOP’s best friend CABLE into a machine designed to destroy ROBOCOP. Will CABLE remember he is the man inside the machine?

03. RESURRECTION

Fugitives on the run, ROBOCOP and former partner CABLE are separated during a pitched battle with Robohunters. They fall into the hands of opposing mercenary groups who restore and re-programme them for the purpose of their own dark crusades.

04. CRASH & BURN

With Delta City on the verge of a Dark Age, ROBOCOP and CABLE are trapped inside the towers of Control Headquarters. To save the city, the entrapped defenders must shut down the all powerful computer and in doing so the ultimate sacrifice must be made.
