“Harpoon: The Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre” is a chilling and darkly comedic Icelandic horror movie coming soon to DVD, courtesy of E1 Entertainment. Following in the footsteps of “Dead Snow” and “Let the Right One In”, this Scandinavian gorefest in the style of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is set to thrill horror fans. Gunnar Hansen – Leatherface himself – stars as a ship captain ferrying an ill-fated group of whale watching tourists.

Ironically, when tragedy strikes and their ship is left to drift, the tourists seek refuge on a whaling vessel manned by a bunch of blood-thirsty crazies. After that, the whales take a back seat and it is the tourists who become the hunted. Their nightmare is just beginning!

Harpoon comes to DVDOriginally released minus the prefix "Harpoon", this English-subtitled escapade comes out of Iceland, a country not exactly known for slasher movies, but no doubt this one will help its balance of payments - they sure do need any sort of income at present. Ironically, it missed out on being nominated by Iceland for an Oscar due to the amount of dialogue which is actually in English!

“Harpoon” is directed by Julius Kemp, who is best known as a producer of such movies as "Dark Floors" and "Dorks and Damsels".

The screenplay was written by Icelander Sjón Sigurdsson, previously an award-winning songwriter - he provided the lyrics for the songs in the gothic musical movie "Dancer In The Dark" from Lars Von Trier. In the eighties Sjón was at the forefront of a surrealist experimental group called Medusa. With close ties to the music world he has collaborated with the Sugarcubes and has more recently been a regular writer for Björk, writing lyrics for her three hit singles "Isobel", "Jóga" and "Bachelorette". With eleven volumes of poetry already published, as well as three novels, Sjón is currently working on the follow up to his award-winning novel "Thyne Eyes Saw Me".

This certificate ‘18’ movie will be released on DVD (£12.99, or less from www.culttvstore.com) on 10 May 2010. A teaser trailer for the movie can be viewed below.

Be sure to revisit the Cineology website soon for our brilliant “Harpoon” competition!
