While the Cineology Weekenders may on the surface look to have many things in common with numerous conventions staged around the world, the sheer variety of activities at any one time is there to show we were serious about you having a fun-filled entertaining weekend that will take you out of this world... ACTIVITIES ALL THE TIME With main stage interviews with our celebrities, television production workshops, our "Study Centre", fun and games, and rare screenings all running concurrently, no sentient being should be bored at any time during our programme running from noon Friday until noon Monday. Your biggest headache will be deciding when to sleep! Over the course of the weekend the Spotlight Stage plays host to the Friday night Opening Ceremony, the celebrity interviews, charity auctions, the Cult TV Awards ceremony and the Sunday night Cabaret, and the nightly theme parties. This is also where we spotlight a trio of TV series over the weekend, with some fun activities related to these series. The Festival Stage programme includes further celebrity interviews, plus our "Study Centre" which looks at the truth you find in extraordinary fiction, while the Workshop brings together a collection of inter-active happenings to help you understand more about various aspects of the TV production process. In addition the Weekender intends to runs a rare choice of screenings throughout the day and night, discussion groups, quizzes and competitions, along with a select band of traders selling TV-related merchandise. WORKSHOP Featuring topics presented by writers, actors, stuntmen, make-up artists, puppeteers and directors, you will find it very revealing as to what is involved in the careers of these experts. Some sessions are talks, others are demonstrations, and many benefit from audience participation. These Workshops give an insight into the television production process and related industries. FANSTRAND Involving discussions and debates, and a lot of interaction, the Fanstrand of the Weekender involves some crazy television-related activities, loads of fun quizzes and games, fan-related crafts including fiction writing, costume making and model building, alongside more studious discussions of television's past, present and future in the now-legendary late-night forum Handbags Before Dawn. AUTOGRAPH SESSIONS With so many guests and so much on offer, if you are a "Club" member of the Weekender, you are called up to get celebrity autographs based on your badge number (so, the benefit from this system is gained by booking early). This avoids too much tedious queueing. While autographing the Weekender brochure for free, and signing one item of your own for free, many of the guests will bring along their own photographs and related merchandise, which are available for purchase, that they will sign, some at an additional cost. Indeed "Classic" members of the Weekender can also purchase autographs as required. QUIZZES Beginning with the light-hearted Friday afternoon Ice Breakers to help people get in the mood for the weekend, the quizzes continue with Screen Dump in which three-person teams go head-to-head throughout the Weekender, with the Grand Final on Sunday evening. CHARITY AUCTIONS Taking place in two parts on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, with an earlier viewing each day to show people what will be on offer, the Charity Auction includes rare and difficult to acquire merchandise, with all proceeds going to our chosen charity. CULT TV AWARDS Taking place on the Saturday night, the Cult TV Awards are now in their 17th year, and this is the ceremony which announces the winners of the annual categories as well as the growing Hall of Fame and Hall of Shame nominees. Nominated by, and voted for, by the Weekender attendees, the Cult TV Awards allows television’s most discerning audience to have its say. STAR CABARET Friday and Sunday nights is where you frin the Weekender's Cabaret. See some celebrities do a turn with their comedy and variety acts, displaying talents not normally associated with their popular television personas. The competition Cult Idol gives attendees a chance to show off their vocal skills and costume craftwork. And add to that music and comedy from our guest acts who know their telly stuff! THEME PARTIES Every night, starting after the main evening festivities draw to a close, the entertainment continues with a themed party. Between the music and dancing Costume Contests award prizes to the attendees who have done the best job of coming dressed according to each theme.
