Operation: Save Moonlight

As some of you may be aware, American network CBS has cancelled the series Moonlight – currently screening in the UK on LIVING. The show’s fans have just begun campaigning to have another network pick up the show.

Recently it was reported the The CW network Stateside had decided against picking up Moonlight; but Harry Werksman, one of the show's co-executive producers and showrunner, told the fans who attended MoonlightCon 2008 during the recent American Memorial Day weekend that the American Sci-Fi Network is indeed interested in stepping in to save the series from the cancellation abyss.

When the fans learned of Sci-Fi's interest, they decided to begin a "grassroots" campaign to make Moonlight a more attractive property to Sci-Fi by contacting DirecTV to encourage them to sponsor Moonlight as they did with NBC's Friday Night Lights. With DirecTV's current business model, to offer entertainment choices not available through their competition, entering a partnership with Sci-Fi would be beneficial to them as well.

Further information, along with contact names and addresses, can be found at the below sites:

It should be emphasised that the only network to decline picking up Moonlight has been The CW. The fans have also contacted FX, USA, and TNT. However, it is Sci-Fi that has expressed a definite interest, and that's why the primary focus is being directed at them, along with contacting DirecTV.

Not only are the fans working to bring what they now consider as their show back, but have found meaningful ways to combine their passion for Moonlight with contributing to various charities/service agencies.

During MoonlightCon 2008 a Saturday auction brought in $6,500 for the Los Angeles Food Bank. Fifty pints of blood were drawn from fans who attended the event by the American Red Cross Blood Drive. 37 people, who also attended The Con, were added to the National Bone Marrow Transplant Program registry.
