Cult TV Awards 2016 are coming!

Monday, 26 September 2016 23:00

It’s that time of the year again already, the preparation and process of the Cult TV Awards. First given out in 1994, we are now on our 23rd annual ceremony, celebrating extraordinary fictional television. It’s not for movies, unless they were especially made for television. It’s not for rewarding big screen talent, it’s for those who have made a huge contribution towards the appreciation of what has been achieved on the small screen. As usual, it’s down to YOU to decide not only who wins, but as a first stage the five nominees who make it through each category and onto the voting form.

The prizes you could win for nominating in the Cult TV Awards 2016

Thanks to our good friends at Fabulous Films, our collection of incentives for simply telling us your favourites, at both stages in the process, are magnificent this year. First up is the nomination phase, which will tie in with the release of THE A-TEAM on BLU-RAY. Yes, our star prize is this 22 disc set, with a running time of 4,690 mins approx, and an RRP of £149.99, and it could be yours just for telling us your favourites! Nominations go live on 1 October 2016, so look out for the link and get ready to vote.

With this star A-TEAM prize, time to join BA, Hannibal, Murdock and Face in all 97 episodes from their five seasons of the ground-breaking show, now fully restored and in Hi-Definition. Guest stars include Dean Stockwell (Quantum Leap) Boy George (Culture Club), Isaac Hayes (Shaft), David McCallum (The Man from U.N.C.L.E), Yaphet Kotto (Dr Kananga in “Live and Let Die”) and Harold Sakata (Oddjob in “Goldfinger”).

Second and Third prizes in the nomination phase - and again, all you have to do is make your nominations - are complete DVD sets of another Stephen J Cannell production - BAA BAA BLACK SHEEP (aka BLACK SHEEP SQUADRON). - all 36 episodes on DVD, with an RRP of £69.99.

This is a classic war series where men were men, and the South Pacific was the place for unlimited adventure, with all of Season 1 and 2, including the feature-length pilot episode. The show is loosely based on Major Greg Boyington’s best-selling 1958 autobiography. He was a United States Marine Corps fighter ace during World War II, known as ‘Pappy’ due to his age compared to the younger pilots under his command.

Nominations will close at 11.59pm GMT on Monday 24 October 2016. We’ll count the categories, and then the Awards Form itself will be issued on Saturday 29 October 2016. The closing date for voting will then be 11.59pm GMT on Monday 14 November 2016. For the Awards, we take the qualification period as from September 2015 to August 2016 inclusive.

The prizes on offer for voting in the Cult TV Awards 2016

The prizes for voting in the Awards themselves are also top drawer. Top of the pile is the BLU-RAY release of the entire run of KNIGHT RIDER. This 20 disc set, running for 4,327 minutes approx, has a RRP of £149.99 and is released on 7 November 2016.

So, gear up for action with superstar David Hasselhoff and his supercar, KITT, as they throttle crime in all 90 high-octane episodes now fully restored and in HD. The series follows the thrilling adventures of Michael Knight, a detective thought to be dead, who has been given a new face and identity. His assignment to fight crime with the help of an artificially intelligent, talking car - a high-speed, futuristic weapon outfitted with high-tech gadgets and a personality of its own. Driven by justice, they set out to take-down criminals who operate above the law.

Second prize is the entire series of THE WONDER YEARS on DVD. This 26 disc set has a running time of 4,089 mins approx, and a RRP of £124.99.

This show defined coming-of-age for a generation, and now for the first time in the world, this hit TV series has been released including Joe Cocker’s unforgettable rendition of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends”, and 100% of the original music. This 26-DVD set includes four Bonus Discs, and contains all 115 episodes from all six seasons and a staggering 23 hours of exclusive bonus material.

And finally, the third prize is THE WATER MARGIN on BLU-RAY, and eight disc set with a running time of 1,180 mins approx, and a RRP of £79.99.

After years of waiting, this series finally gets a fully restored release on Blu-ray. The HD restoration includes many deleted and shortened scenes never seen before. Based on the 14th century novel by Shi Nai’an, it was broadcast in Japan in 1973 and 1974. David Weir (of Monkey fame) wrote the script for the English language adaptation, without the aid of translations but with only brief plot synopses. The iconic Burt Kwouk narrated the series which was aired on the BBC from 1976 to 1978.

The winners of all these prizes will be drawn at random from those completing either their nomination forms or their voting forms.

Keep your eyes peeled for when the nominations go live, as over the two stages of deciding our 2016 winners that’s more than £640.00 of prizes to be won!
